David Harry, who lives on Jerbourg Road, has created a Manx themed display in his garden that the athletes will pass each day when they leave their base at Jerbourg Hotel.

The Isle of Man has the third highest number of athletes with 218, but when you add up all the team officials, there are 254.

Mr Harry has a combination of Guernsey and Isle of Man flags in his garden, there is also a banner that reads “Good luck Team Isle of Man”.

A Manx cat, a fairy bridge, and a fairy have been installed.

It is folklore that when you go over the Fairy Bridge you have to say hello to the fairies. If you do not, it is bad luck.

A sign on the front wall that pays homage to cycling legend Mark Cavendish, who is currently riding the Tour de France chasing one more stage win to break Eddy Merckx’s record of 34.

In 2003, the last time that Guernsey hosted the Games, Cavendish struck gold in the cycling criterium.

The photograph of a Jerseyman Sam Firby celebrating too early allowing Cavendish through for the win, became one of the enduring images of the Games.

Mr Harry has been a keen cyclist since 1968, and has very recently stepped down as chairman of the Guernsey Commonwealth Games Association, a post he held for eight years.

He is also a volunteer attache for the Island Games.
