The Guernsey Youth Commission is asking youngsters to ‘get on board’ and use their free, mobile youth support services this summer.

The Bus Stop had a successful launch on Liberation Day, when it was parked up near the bus terminus at The Albany in St Peter Port.

Effectively a mobile youth space, the bus will be manned by Youth Commission trained support workers as it tours different locations this summer.

It will be used for targeted outreach in key areas across the island, and then at pop-up sessions that will be guided by community needs after the listed trials.

Emmie Bougourd, Youth Commission Outreach Lead, said: “Outreach youth work is about removing barriers, whether social, economic, behavioural, or geographic.

“The Bus Stop helps us reach young people who might not otherwise access services on the island, including ours. Sometimes it’s as simple as a lack of transport; other times, it’s more complex. Every young person deserves access to safe spaces, support, and informal education that’s relevant to them. We hope The Bus Stop enables us to reach more young people and ensure equal access to vital information, resources, and opportunities, wherever they are.”

Currently the Bus is open for use by teenagers up to 18-years-old with the Youth Commission assessing the needs of each area.

The Youth Commission has said if younger people want to visit with their parents then that is also allowed.

Charlotte Dunsterville, Chief Commercial Officer, Skipton International, said: “We’re proud to continue supporting The Bus Stop as it takes youth support directly into the heart of our island community. Championing initiatives that strengthen the communities in which we operate is central to Skipton’s values and we’re delighted to stand alongside the Youth Commission in making community support more accessible, inclusive and impactful.”
