It’s all part of changes as the island moves toward its new waste strategy.
From 3 September, waste that is currently taken by householders to Mont Cuet, including mattresses, will need to be taken to the Longue Hougue Recycling Facility. This accepts a wide range of items for recycling and those in good condition are taken to be sold by charity partner GO. Charges for waste and mattresses will be the same as what is currently charged at Mont Cuet.
As part of the changes, the new Waste Transfer Station – where household rubbish will be processed – is also due to be commissioned ahead of it starting operation.
Operations Manager Sarah Robinson said changes to opening hours and the closure of Mont Cuet to the public was all part of the wider waste strategy implementation.
“Enabling householders to deliver both waste and recycling to Longue Hongue should be more convenient for householders. Green waste will continue to be accepted at Chouet,” she said.
“We have also taken the opportunity to reviewed these opening hours and have amended these based on site usage, customer feedback and to allow efficient and economic operations on site.”
The new purpose built Household Waste Recycling Centre at Longue Hougue, which will replace the current temporary facility, is due to open in 2019. Householders can log onto gov.gg/recycling to see what can be recycled at every location.
