A local swimmer is launching a new book celebrating swimming in the Bailiwick, sharing stories and practical information for those looking to dive in.

Nick Wild is launching ‘Wild Swims Guernsey’ at the 50th Swimarathon, taking place from 7 – 11 October at Beau Sejour and La Vallette.

The books encompasses more than just swimming.

It details how to gain confidence in the water, information about the Bailiwick’s marine environment and the powerful community that can be built through it.

Mr Wild said: “I wanted ‘Wild Swims Guernsey’ to reflect not just the places we swim, but the people, knowledge and community surrounding swimming in the Bailiwick.

“There are so many stories connected to our coastline, and bringing some of them together in one book has been a privilege.”

Mr Wild has been swimming in Guernsey’s waters for 60 years through changing tides, seasons and conditions.

That depth of experience is complimented by contributions from more than 30 organisations and individuals, creating a broad-stroke impression of the Island’s swimming culture.

Mr Wild added: “Swimming has been part of my life for as long as I can remember, and the waters around these Islands have given me an extraordinary collection of experiences, friendships and memories.”

Signed copies will be available from the Swimarathon where Mr Wild will meet swimmers, supporters and visitors.

Proceeds from the book will be donated to the Swimarathon and the Guernsey Sports Commission to support The Wild Swimming Initiative.
