A new website, dedicated to Guernsey’s States’ parliamentary information and updates has been launched.

It went live recently, ahead of the newly elected States members being sworn in and today’s vote on a new P&R President.

The new website has separated the parliament’s online presence from general government information which remains on gov.gg

It follows a Policy & Resources directive to establish a distinct parliamentary function for the island.

The new website is intended to improve support for States members, making it easier for them to research different topics and to make decisions.

It’s also aimed at improving the public’s understanding of how the States works, with detailed explanations and a glossary of parliamentary terms.

The new site will also have the States Electronic Voting system records built in, offering greater public transparency on voting.

Delivered within its £120,000 budget, the site is seen as an “important development” by States Greffier Simon Ross.

“This is an important development for Guernsey’s Parliament. Its launch has been timed to coincide with the election and it will be a key tool for States Members as they undertake the work of this States’ term.

“It will also be the chief resource for the public to inform themselves of what is happening in their parliament. Having workedclosely with an internal project board and site developer TPA, we’re very pleased with the outcome”.

States Chief Executive, Boley Smillie hopes people will use the new site.

“The development and delivery of a new website with as much content as parliament.gg is a significant undertaking and our team have delivered a quality product.

Mr Smilie continued: “This site gives the community access to clear information about the work of the Assembly, including the introduction of real-time updates as decisions are made during States debates.”
