The Guernsey Vessel Traffic Service (VTS), which manages the movement of traffic within St Peter Port Harbour, will move into the new building next year.
The new signal station will house two VTS officers using VHF radio and radar to track the movement of vessels.
“Guernsey VTS is the first point of contact for commercial and leisure vessels navigating in our harbours and their approaches,” said Assistant Harbourmaster James Way.
“The new Signal Station will provide improved facilities and a modern and comfortable working environment for our staff, enabling them to focus on delivering an effective and professional traffic management service.”
The station is being built by UK supplier Inbox Projects and will be fully operational early in 2022.
“Investment in this new Signal Station will allow Guernsey Ports to deliver a 21st century VTS service which fully complies with international standards and is vital to maintain lifeline passenger and freight services to Guernsey and our outlying islands,” said Harbourmaster Captain David Barker.
The project is expected to cost £320,000.
