The modernised ID cards are approved by local travel companies for travel within the Channel Islands, as well as some parts of the UK.

For under 18s they cost £10 & £15 for over 18s.

Whilst they aren’t accepted island wide as a formal proof of identity or age, there are certain businesses that will allow their use this way, as the application process follows similar vetting procedures as applying for a Driving License.

If you have one of the older cards, they still remain valid until their expiry. While not their core function, ID card sales do help raise vital funds for the Youth Commission’s services supporting young people.

Dylan Smillie was the first recipient of the new style ID cards. His dad was pleased the scheme was up and running again.

“Thank you so much for your help you got me out of a tight spot as he has a school trip coming up,” he said.

You can find out more, and download an application form from the Youth Commissions website, alternatively, they can be collected from the Police Station.
