A sheep is reported to have died after being “worried” by a dog being walked off-lead at Pleinmont.

The GSPCA said the dog is understood to have been chasing the farm animals who were in a privately owned field.

GSPCA Manager, Steve Byrne said this is concerning for the welfare and safety of sheep and other animals across the island.

“We have recent reports of dogs off lead causing issues and chasing farm animals and even a possible death of a sheep due to this recently which is very worrying for their welfare and safety.

“When out with your dog the GSPCA asks all islanders to kindly be cautious in areas where farm animals and horses might be present both for their pets safety and that of the animals residing in those fields or locations.

“Farm animals especially the larger species can, if scared, break out of fields causing a risk to themselves and others and we want to ensure the animals and our community is kept safe and well.”
