The annual fireworks display to round up the end of the North Show has been cancelled, because of the fire risk after an exceptionally dry summer.
The Northern Agricultural & Horticultural Society confirmed the display will not go ahead this year, for safety reasons.
Vice-President and Show Manager, Josh Cotran-Gabriel said: “Protecting the park, its wildlife, our exhibitors, and the thousands of visitors who attend the show is our foremost priority.”
“While the fireworks are a much‑loved tradition, conditions on site mean that proceeding would not meet the society’s safety standards or our duty of care to the community.”

This decision follows formal safety advice and a detailed assessment of the exceptionally dry conditions at Saumarez Park along with their firework provider, Standard Fireworks.
The current surroundings present an “elevated” fire risk, a spokesperson said.
All other Battle of Flowers and show activities will continue as planned with the rest of the evening programme going ahead.
