The vehicle – believed to be a Smart Car – has not yet been recovered, and is not visible from any direction.

A recovery effort for the vehicle is being considered.

A crane will be at Jerbourg later so the cliff rescue team and the emergency services can decide whether to recover the car or leave it where it is.

The first calls for help were made just after 09:30 this morning.

All of the emergency services were dispatched to the scene along with volunteers from the civil protection service and the cliff rescue team.

By 11:30 the man – the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the incident – had been recovered.

He was assessed by paramedics at the scene, with a spokesperson for the emergency services telling Express that his injuries at that time were not believed to be life threatening.

A short time after that he was taken to the Princess Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.

A cordon was still in place at Jerbourg car park at 12:30, restricting access to the scene where the car had gone over the edge and the rescue efforts had been centred.

It is expected that the cordon will be removed, but then put back in place when the crane is there so that the emergency services and cliff rescue team can assess how they can deal with the car.
