The annual BWCI Open Castle Swim is taking place this coming Sunday – with hundreds of swimmers, supported by volunteer kayakers taking on the challenge.
This year, the 500m swim will take entrants from the Castle Cornet slipway across Havelet Bay to the Horseshoe Pool at La Vallette.
It’s open to everyone who is aged at least 10 on the day of the swim, upwards.
Pre-registration has closed, but entries will be taken on Sunday morning from the start area.
The Castle Swim is organised by the Guernsey Swimming Club, with BWCI once again supporting the event.
All money through sponsorship or donations, including the £6 entry fee, will be shared equally between Dementia Friendly Guernsey, Headway, and the Guernsey Welfare Service.
BWCI said it is “excited” and “thrilled” to once again be involved with the community fundraising event.
The swim itself will begin from 12:30 on Sunday lunchtime.
The swimmers will be set off in batches from the Castle Cornet slipway, heading to the Horseshoe Pool.
As well as being organised by Guernsey Swimming Club, and supported by BWCI, the Open Castle Swim relies on volunteers to meet the safety requirements needed for such a large number of people swimming in the open water.
Volunteer kayakers will be keeping a watch on all the swimmers as they make their way across Havelet Bay.
There will be officials involved with the event at both ends of the swim, including on the Castle Cornet slipway from around 11:30 and at the Horseshoe Pool, where certificates will be handed out.
