An orange wind warning has been issued for this afternoon, forecasting gales up to Force 8.
The Jersey Met Office issued the alert this morning, along with tide warnings for Guernsey’s east coast.
The orange wind warning predicts south to south easterly gale force 8 winds with gusts to 55kts from around 15:00 today.

At force 8 and 55kts, the wind will be far below what was forecast when Storm Goretti battered the island two weeks ago, with gusts up to hurricane strength force 12 for a time.
At that time the ‘Red’ alert meant everyone was advised to stay indoors, but today’s ‘Orange’ warning means vigilance is required.
Guernsey Coastguard had asked boat owners to heed the weather warning and to check their vessels are tightly secured in advance of the wind.
The corresponding tide warning for the east coast this morning and this afternoon is followed by a tide alert for tomorrow morning, also affecting the east coast.

Waves were washing across Les Banques and the Longstore this morning as the high tide coincided with force 6-7 winds.
This evening’s high tide will coincide with force 7-8 winds, with more debris expected to be washed into the road.
The tide alert for tomorrow morning will see a less severe situation, but water and debris are again expected to wash over the east coast sea walls.
