A replacement can be picked up free of charge from the Household Waste and Recycling Centre at Longue Hougue, the green waste site or any parish office.
“The glass bags provided for kerbside glass are specifically designed for this purpose,” said Waste Minimisation and Sustainability Officer, Douglas Button.
“They are safer for the collection crews when handling glass, as they are much stronger than reusable carrier bags, so there’s less chance of them breaking and causing a mess.
“The designated bags have a weighted bottom, which also means they are far less likely to be blown around the roads once empty.”
Guernsey Waste has also taken the opportunity to ask people to consider the weather when putting out their recycling and waste, and to also make sure they only put their bags out on the day of pick up.
“Please be mindful of the weather when putting out your waste,” said Mr Button.
“Anything that is set out should be adequately weighted down, but please take care not to put bricks, stones or other heavy items inside any containers, as these will damage equipment if they are picked up along with your recycling.
“If it is very windy and you only have a small amount of light weight recyclable waste, please consider whether it could wait until your next kerbside collection.
“Blue bags in particular can be blown around in windy conditions. If they do escape and their contents spill out, they can leave an awful mess that someone has to clear up.”
