The Committee’s Vice President – the first woman to hold the position – tendered her resignation last week.

The Committee confirmed her decision in a statement, in which she blamed enduring differences of opinion between herself and some other Committee members.

“It has been obvious for quite a while that my views and advice have not been valued by some on the Committee and I think there is little point in me continuing in the hope that things may get better,” said Deputy Soulsby.

She will continue to serve on the Committee until a replacement is elected, which the Committee has said is likely to happen at the States’ meeting scheduled to start on 23 November. Until then, Deputy Soulsby will retain full voting and attendance rights as a member of the Committee.

Immediately following Deputy Soulsby’s resignation, a flurry of names were mooted as possible replacements for her on P&R.

The names occurring most frequently were Deputies Andrea Dudley-Owen and Chris Blin, both deemed to have views aligned with the remaining four members of P&R on a number of issues. Deputies Lyndon Trott and Yvonne Burford were named, with their experience within the States cited as good reasons for them to be appointed. Deputies Liam McKenna and Nick Moakes – both in their first term of office, like Deputy Blin – were also named as likely candidates.

Since then, Deputy Bob Murray has also been mentioned as a likely candidate.

Ahead of the States vote on 23 November, Express would like to know what the public think.

Using the poll below, you can choose your preferred candidate for P&R from the seven likely candidates, or suggest another deputy from the other 28 States members who could be nominated or put themselves forward.
