Guernsey Ports says it’s looking to unlock the potential of two landmark assets through “much-needed investment and sensitive redevelopment.”
Officials are inviting ‘Expressions of Interest’ for two prominent waterfront locations, with both the old Slaughterhouse and the former Boathouse sites being offered as public-private partnerships.
The Slaughterhouse
The former Slaughterhouse is a protected building dating from the late 19th century, featuring a facade of brown Cobo granite.
While the western end already functions as a restaurant, the eastern section is currently under a scaffold canopy to protect the roof, which requires significant repair.
Guernsey Ports says the interior is currently used for storage by several tenants, and any potential developers are asked to consider how these existing storage requirements might be managed, either within the new scheme or elsewhere on the harbour estate.
The Former Boathouse
The Victoria Pier premises was originally built in 1898 as an engine house, but more recently the building has served many thousands of people as a tourist information centre and a restaurant.
Situated at the entrance to the ‘Crown Pier’, the site is highlighted by Guernsey Ports for its high visibility and proximity to public parking.
Guernsey Ports says it is looking for proposals for this building that cover hospitality, commercial, or cultural uses. Any plans must be financially sustainable and respect the heritage of the locations, it said.
Commercial Development Manager David Buddery said: “These are two of the most prominent commercial premises on our estate, offering exceptional opportunities for redevelopment.
“The former Slaughterhouse is a landmark building with immense potential, while the Victoria Pier premises offers an attractive, high-profile waterfront location.
“Our ambition is to unlock the full potential of each site through much-needed investment and sensitive redevelopment.”

This public-private process is being managed by Savills so enquiries should be directed to Terry Gardiner or Tony Rowbotham at the estate agency.
The closing date for expressions of interest is 30 April 2026.
