Deputy Mark Helyar has refused to give a “running commentary” on the States attempts to recoup money owed by Blue Islands.
While the amount the bust airline owes the States of Jersey has been confirmed this week, no figure has been confirmed publicly for what it owes Guernsey.
It’s accepted that the figure will be much lower than what is owed in Jersey, but no information is being shared publicly about what it is.
Deputy Helyar, as President of the States Trading Supervisory Board, is politically responsible for Guernsey Ports.
Ports staff impounded some of Blue Islands’ leased aircraft earlier this week after the airline ceased operations on Friday. It later went into liquidation.
Anyone with a claim against the company is asked to send a detailed account to the Joint Liquidators on or before 29 December 2025. The matter is being handled by Ernst & Young LLP in Jersey.

Posting on his Facebook page, Deputy Helyar said he is confident Guernsey will recoup the money it is owed.
“I wont be disclosing how much we are seeking to recover in relation to sums owed by Blue Islands to the States of Guernsey, I can confirm that the total is significantly less than the sums owed to the States of Jersey, and I am confident given my professional expertise in this area that we will recover the sum due.
“There will not be a running commentary on the process, only a suitable confirmation once the matter is closed. Our ports team knows what needs to be done and is cracking on with it, with our full support.”

Blue Islands owes Jersey a total of £12.4million.
That is made up of £7m outstanding on its covid loan, £400,000 of interest on that loan, £1.2m from an additional loan given on 12 September 2025, and £500,000 from an additional loan given on 7 November 2025.
Blue Islands owes the Ports of Jersey almost £3.3m in landing charges and other fees.
Since the pandemic and the demise of Flybe, Blue Islands had operated some of Jersey’s essential air routes – while offering fewer routes for Guernsey passengers. Therefore it is widely presumed that the amount owed in landing charges and other fees in Guernsey will be less than in Jersey.
