The Chair of Alderney’s Policy & Finance Committee has praised the contributions of the community following Monday’s Tax Reform discussions with a visiting Guernsey delegation.
Representatives from the States of Guernsey travelled to the Bailiwick’s most-northerly island to provide an update on the proposed 2026 Tax Reform Package.
Jeannie Cameron said this “gave States Members and local businesses the opportunity to hear directly from those developing the proposals,” and to “gain a better understanding of both the package and the changes that have been made”.
Ms Cameron said: “I would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to the discussions.
“The engagement was positive, constructive and demonstrated the strong interest people have in understanding the proposals and their implications for Alderney.”
According to the States of Guernsey, the revised package aims to address a projected funding gap through a mix of spending reforms and revenue measures.
This is through changes to personal and corporate taxation, adjusted social security contributions, various transport-related tax changes, and of course, the introduction of a Goods and Services Tax (GST).
However, the tax proposals have received criticism in Guernsey, with Deputy Rob Curgenven claiming the policy letter published by Policy and Resources (P&R) last week appeared to contain “significant gaps”.
The visiting delegation to Alderney was led by Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, the President of P&R, who said there “were some excellent conversations that explored both the principles and the practicalities”.
Deputy de Sausmarez added: “We’re keen to ensure that people across the Bailiwick understand the challenges we face and the measures we’re proposing to make our public finances more sustainable and support public services now and in future.”
Ms Cameron concluded: “I would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to the discussions.
