Policy & Resources will be able to send one of its ordinary members to attend meetings of the new sub-committee looking at devolving powers to schools.
One of the committee’s members will be a member of the Education Devolution Investigation & Advisory Committee.
The P&R President, Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, can’t sit on it but any of the other four members of the senior committee will be able to, giving their input on how far and how fast the introduction of local management of schools should go.
The new Education Devolution Investigation & Advisory Committee will be chaired by Deputy Tina Bury, (pictured top), with Deputies Garry Collins and Haley Camp elected as members this morning.
Together the group will be tasked with investigating changes to the governance of all States schools through school governance boards which have been set up in the past few months.
It will then recommend to the States how much independence from central government they should be given, such as powers over personnel, IT, finance and scrutiny.
Education President Deputy Paul Montague will sit on the board too, along with space for up to two non-voting members.
P&R said any of its members “could act for the Committee as the conduit to bring the full benefit of its experience to advise on this area of its mandate”.
