“[We have been] called out to a 10th seal pup needing our help,” said Geoff George GSPCA Head of Marine Mammals.

“It was around midday [17 April] and the report of a possible poorly seal pup was at Fort Pezaries.

“The pup should be around 40-50kgs for her size but sadly is only 20kg and as well as being dehydrated she is certainly underweight with a worm burden and some wounds.

“Thank you to Matt Gill who helped and we are thinking about possibly calling her Gilly but open to ideas if anyone has any.”

The shelter currently has nine other pups in its care; Didier, Maya, Faulkner, Jem, Valentine, Dolly, Doyle, Grinch and Baby Shark.

“There are lots of ways to support the seals in our care… and we really could do with some fresh mackerel to feed them as well as needing need sky kennels to transport them,” continued Mr George.

The GSPCA has released 32 seals back into the wild over the past ten years.
