The island-wise Level 3 results were published late morning – with the Sixth Form Centre’s results combining A Level and International Baccalaureate results which are equivalent.

This year’s results have been recalibrated to bring them in line with results posted before the covid pandemic disrupted students sitting exams in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

This year’s Level 3 student did not sit GCSE exams and were instead graded for their work by their teachers.

The decision was made to recalibrate this year’s results to equivalent levels from 2019 after the proportions of higher grades awarded nationally rose substantially during 2020 and 2021, when no external exams took place.

In 2022, proportions of grades were benchmarked between 2019 and 2021 levels.

The overall Bailiwick A*-E and IB equivalent pass rate for 2023 is 98.0%.

21.9% of students received an A or A* grade.

In England the A Level A*-E pass rate for 2023 is 97.2%, while the proportion of A*-As is 26.5%.

This year’s Sixth Form Centre cohort of 165 students achieved 463 subject passes.

Collectively they achieved a 100% pass rate in IB subject certificates and a 96.5% pass rate in A Levels overall.

14% of A Level grades were at A*/A and 60% of A Level grades were at A*-C. The Average Grade achieved by students at the Sixth Form Centre was grade C.

A significant number of students complemented these with additional qualifications including AS Levels, Level 3 Core Mathematics and the highly regarded Extended Project Qualification in research skills and academic writing.

The Committee for Education, Sport and Culture said this year’s results “again incorporate both A Levels and IB Higher Level subject certificates, and complement the school’s IB Diploma and IB Career-related Programme results that students received in July.

“This year’s cohort deserves particular congratulations. As students were unable to sit GCSEs in 2021, this summer’s exams were the first external assessments they have ever taken.”

The Technical and Vocational students at The Guernsey Institute have also been celebrating some great personal results, said ESC, however their full set of achievements is not yet available as Guernsey is using the approach to assessment declaration for Technical and Vocational Qualifications in line with England.

Dr Louise Misselke, Principal of The Guernsey Institute College, said today is therefore about personal success for students’ achievements.

“All of our level 3 students have made excellent progress again this year and should be delighted with their achievements. Of our full time students most have already attained employment locally in their chosen career or are on target to progress to higher education both locally and in the UK. We are all extremely proud of their success.”

Deputy Andrea Dudley-Owen, President of the Committee for Education, Sport & Culture, said: “This year has yet again demonstrated our students’ tenacity and hard work, as they receive their A-Level, IB, technical exam, and vocational exam results.

“I have no doubt that many students and their parents and carers will have been quite nervous in the lead up to today, as Level 3 results are a significant step in the education journey before students either move into higher education or the world of work.

“No matter the outcome, I and the rest of the Committee, would like to offer congratulations and best wishes to all who have received results for all of the hard work they have undertaken: good luck to them as they decide what their next move is. I’d also like to thank all of the staff who have been, and will be, supporting students today in making those big decisions. Well done to all.”
