“Following a fault discovered at one of our substations on St Julian’s Avenue earlier this month, Guernsey Electricity has been working to replace the critical infrastructure,” explained a spokesperson for the utility.

“Following excavations to link the replacement equipment to the existing infrastructure, we will now need to extend further into the road to connect the network. We have therefore suggested that States Traffic & Highway Services maintains the current traffic management systems for a further two weeks so we can finalise important works.
“The substation on St Julian’s Avenue is critical in supplying electricity to a large number of domestic properties and businesses. It is essential that the station becomes operational again to provide further security for customers in the wider St Peter Port area, especially through the winter months.”
The crossing near the roadworks is also closed to pedestrians, who are being asked to use other safe crossing points away from the works area.
Drivers are reminded not to stop between the temporary traffic lights, so as not to impede other road users.
