The slipway at Creux Harbour is closed to all but essential and emergency use, with access restricted in the harbour and at the entrance to the old tunnel, and comes with a message from Chief Pleas urging caution.

The Harbours, Shipping and Pilotage Committee say they will inspect the cliff face and seek advice from geotechnical engineers regarding remedial work, which are to be carried out as soon as possible.

In the meantime, the public must keep away from this area completely, with a Chief Pleas spokesperson issuing a statement urging caution in the area: “There are already signs in place that warn of the dangers at the base of the cliffs in this area. This rockfall and other recent smaller falls underline this risk.”

Parts of Sark’s geology are prone to natural erosion and rockfalls, as seen earlier this year with the damage caused to La Coupée, and the efforts undertaken to fix the bridge connecting Sark and Little Sark.

The statement from Sark ends urging caution in the area: “The ongoing advice for Creux harbour and other locations will continue to be: Please keep away from the base of these cliffs and be aware of the risk of rockfalls.”
