With a huge range of music planned, many different craft stalls and plenty of activities, the new event is expected to be a success already. The organisers have even fitted some football in to the planning after the England team made the quarter finals of the World Cup.

The planning has involved working the festival into the very fabric of Sark. People will be staying at the island’s various camp sites and guest houses and the entire island will benefit from the event giving a much welcomed boost to its economy.

Festivities will kick off today and run through to Sunday.

“This summer, our wonderful island will host an eclectic mix of music, from laid-back Reggae to foot-stomping Blues, enchanting Folk to Country swagger. Enjoy food tents, craft stalls, secret garden yoga, tai chi, choir singing… we’ll have lots of activities for adults and kids, with more great vibes than you can shake a drumstick at,” the organisers had previously said.

“Did we mention our amazing seafood, our local handmade sausages with honey, or our delicious creamy chocolates? And, our fine selection of local ales and ciders won’t be the only thing on tap… fresh air, glorious sunsets, sea views and star-filled night skies are always plentiful on Sark.”

The Sark Folk Festival, which the Summer Festival is replacing this year, announced earlier this week it will be returning next year.

It is set to make a re-energised appearance after the organisers said they were taking a year-long break.

It is not yet clear whether the Sark Summer Festival will also return in the future but for now the organisers are focused on making the 2018 event a big success.
