Sark is preparing for the reopening of its brewery.

Having had its fortunes damaged by the covid pandemic, the brewery had closed but is reopening with the Seigneur and others backing its success this time round.

“The brewery is rising like a phoenix from the ashes of post covid brewery failure,” he said.

“We’re doing testing at the moment. The heating system has been tested, so we’ve proved that the water temperature can be brought up to a brewing temperature and stay there. The pumps are being tested and we’re aiming to have our first brew ready for ‘Sark-toberfest’, which is on the 4 October.”

The Seigneur confirmed that the brewery will be making something slightly differing this time compared to its previous offerings.

“The previous iteration had a really nice light IPA, along with something much darker, but it’ll be up to the brewers to come up with a recipe that they fancy.

“We’ll be using as much local produce as we can, along with the barley and other local additives that we could throw in to make the flavour that little bit extra.”

The first event planned to coincide with the opening of the new brewery is ‘Sark-toberfest’ – scheduled for Saturday 4 October.

It will be based on a traditional Bavarian festival with food and entertainment provided too.
