Conseiller Helen Plummer, Chair of the Medical & Emergency Services Committee told Chief Pleas the incumbent doctors’ contract would end on May 5 and it had secured an interim solution until July.

She warned politicians and the public that a new model of medical cover for Sark is needed, which is “sustainable for the future” given tight public finances and an ever-ageing population.

She promised that the Committee is “actively seeking” a long-term solution to medical services.

Conseiller Frank Makepeace later said the doctor had been treated “disgracefully” and argued her departure represented “constructive dismissal.

This came during a separate debate of the Committee’s mandate, which was ruled to not be relevant.
