For years those with an interest in the occult and the spooky have been drawn to Sausmarez Manor.

The legendary landmark in St Martin’s has attracted visitors in one form or another for hundreds of years, and its spectral residents still get spotted today.

In an interview with Express looking at the Manor’s haunted happenings ahead of Halloween, Peter de Sausmarez says that following a ritual performed by a professional ghost hunter, the spirits had been rather absent – but they have since returned.

“Nothing happened for about two or three years, whether it upset the ghosts or what,” Mr de Sausmarez said. “I don’t know, we had a kind of seance, I did ask him not to, but he did it anyway.

“Whether that caused the ghosts to go on holiday or what, I don’t know, but anyway, they’re certainly back again now.”

There are a number of named ghosts that allegedly haunt the hallways, nursery, and former dining room at Sausmarez Manor, and you can hear all about them in our podcast with Mr de Sausmarez.

What is clear and evident from what Mr de Sausmarez has experienced, is the ongoing appetite for the occult.

Mr de Sausmarez impressed on Express that the Manor tours have become so popular, they’ve had to triple their offering.

Usually taking place on a Thursday, the tours often became fully booked, so they have also begun hosting tours on Wednesdays and Fridays.
