The Managing Director of SEL, Alan Witney-Price, imposed a deadline of today (7 July) on the island’s government Chief Pleas, after which he said he would cut the ageing electricity cable that runs along La Coupee. He asked that Chief Pleas provide the necessary permissions and wayleaves to dig a trench to lay a new cable.
The stalemate comes after years of turbulence between the electricity provider and the island’s government.

Mr Witney-Price said this morning (7 July) that, while he has received nothing from Chief Pleas, he will not be cutting the power yet. Instead, he will be reaching out to the UK’s Ministry of Justice for support.
He said he’ll wait for a response from them before taking any further action. Mr Witney-Price is set to publish his open letter to the MoJ imminently.
“I do not want to cut the cable to Little Sark,” he said, after suggesting that safety concerns might leave him with no choice.
