A football academy for girls in Guernsey will continue for at least two more years, after its sponsor announced it would carry on another two years.
Mourant, the international professional services group, has confirmed its support of the Mourant Girls Academy, part of the Guernsey Football Association (GFA), for a further two years.
The Mourant Girls Academy was created in October 2019 to give girls who have shown talent and passion for football the opportunity to be part of a team with players of similar abilities and aspirations.
Alana Gillies Ridout, Guernsey Partner and Inclusion Leader, said: “At Mourant, we believe in creating opportunities for people to fulfil their potential, and the Mourant Girls Academy is a strong reflection of these values.
“The programme provides talented young players with the coaching, support and competitive experiences they need to progress in the sport, while also fostering important life skills such as leadership, teamwork, resilience and inclusion. We are pleased to continue our sponsorship and support the continued success of girls’ football in Guernsey.”
For the 2025/26 season, the GFA continued to use a trial format to select players for the Girls Academy.
Across the two trial weeks, 70 young footballers attended, with 58 selected to represent the Mourant Girls Academy.
Scarlett Kenneally, Football Development Officer at the GFA, added: “We are delighted to be extending our partnership with Mourant for a further two years. The firm’s continued support has been essential in helping us develop and grow the Girls Academy, providing more opportunities for young female footballers across Guernsey.
“Over the past few seasons, we have seen fantastic progress, both in the development of individual players and the growth of girls’ football as a whole. We are incredibly grateful for Mourant’s ongoing commitment and look forward to building on this success together over the next two years.”
Earlier this year, Mourant also confirmed its sponsorship of the Mourant Guernsey Junior Cricket Leagues for the next three years.
The Mourant Guernsey Junior Cricket Leagues will provide boys and girls aged up to 14 with a fun, inclusive and competitive introduction to cricket, focusing on skill development, confidence and enjoyment of the game.
