Specsavers has donated industry-grade film equipment to the newly created Institute of Screen Arts Guernsey (ISAG), improving Guernsey’s film-making infrastructure.
Cameron Ashplant, ISAG’s Director, said the new equipment has “lowered” the barriers to entry of film-making in the island.
He continued: “That is monumental in addressing questions about Guernsey’s infrastructure, skills and costs of production.”
The professional equipment meets Netflix’s technical standards, meaning quality kit is available on island, making Guernsey a more attractive place to produce films.
Already, three production companies have rented ISAG’s equipment, filming across the island.

Aside from attracting productions to Guernsey, the equipment available on island will allow locals to pursue their creative dreams and establish careers in an industry hasn’t had much of a foot-hold in Guernsey.
Mr Ashplant added: “This makes film production a more accessible and viable career path for islanders and it also improves Guernsey’s position as a hub for filmmaking.
“We are very grateful for the donation from Specsavers, and we know it is already meaningfully developing the burgeoning screen sector.”
The equipment has been used by Specsavers to film its iconic “Should’ve Gone to Specsavers” ads, which have been filmed in Guernsey over the years.
Danny Bush, Specsavers Creative Production Lead, said the company was “delighted” to see its equipment going to a new home.
Among the donated equipment is professional lighting and sound gear, camera systems and accessories, which together can support the entire production of a small-scale project.
Beyond attracting established professionals to the island, ISAG also provides mentoring and workshops with the aim of creating a sustainable film ecosystem and a vibrant community of local filmmakers. Specsavers’ donation allows it to enhance that work.
Mr Bush added: “We know how much great up-and-coming filmmaking talent there is over here.
“Our creatives regularly go into schools to mentor film students and are always amazed by the quality of the work.
“So we’re really looking forward to seeing how it is used next and expect to to see great things.”
Islanders and production companies interested in renting the equipment are asked to contact the Institute of Screen Arts Guernsey by emailing info@screenartsguernsey.com.
