The app is a location-finding system in which every three-metre square of the world, including Alderney, has been given a unique identifier made up of three words.

If you are at the scene of an incident you can use the free app to find the three words for your location, which can be given to the emergency services over the phone. The system will speed up response times as additional directions will not be necessary.

The Alderney Operational Group, which includes police, fire, ambulance, harbour, hospital and the island medical centre is getting behind a Bailiwick-wide campaign to highlight the importance of being able to use What3Words.
