Numerous States of Guernsey IT systems are still down after an air-conditioning system in the main server room at Sir Charles Frossard House failed on Friday.
What happened?
The temperature in the server room quickly increased after an air conditioning unit failed. That meant the server went into what has been called ‘preservation mode’ – effectively shutting down to protect the data it holds.
The States communication team has assured us that all data was protected.
“While the forced shutdown successfully protected the server itself and safeguarded all data held by the States of Guernsey, it did cause significant performance issues across the States IT network,” a spokesperson said.

What was affected?
The States has given us a long list of different services which were affected by the IT outage. Some are still affected today and some will be affected for most of this week too.

The system used by Social Security to make benefit payments has been restored meaning staff can now assess wage slips submitted on Friday for last week’s income support top up payments. The States spokesperson said “any customer who finds themselves in financial hardship due to the delay can contact Income Support on 221000”. Benefit payments are expected to be made as normal this week.
Revenue Service’s online services remain down including the payroll system, ‘Returns Creator’.
Schools do not currently have internet or email access.
Flight and harbour information is unavailable online, and passengers cannot check in online. Passengers are advised to leave extra time to pass through check-in and security.
Guernsey Tickets website is down. Tickets can be bought in person or over the phone from Beau Sejour.
Beau Sejour’s website is down and its café is closed as staff can’t scan bar codes.

The Guernsey Registry website is unavailable so it can’t publish statutory notices but businesses can still access its online services portal to register people and companies.
Guernsey Waste cannot respond to public enquiries as it can’t access online information.
