Anyone who can work from home is encouraged to do so today, as the clean up continues after Storm Goretti.

All schools, the private colleges, and the Guernsey Institute campuses remain closed for the day with many nurseries also staying closed.

The States acknowledged this would cause some inconvenience to families but said “this decision was taken to reduce risks given many major roads are blocked or covered in debris”.

A later announcement from the States confirmed the wider ‘stay at home’ request remains in place too.

While many businesses, including tree surgeons, gardeners, roofers, window fitters, and more are likely to be extra busy helping others get back on their feet, some businesses are counting the cost of damage to their own properties.

Vale Garage remains closed at the time of writing.

Channel Welders at the Vale Castle Industrial Estate has also suffered damage.

Its roller door has been destroyed.

The opening is being boarded up while a new door is being ordered.

Annandale at the Hougue du Pommier has a hole in its warehouse roof.

At Admiral Park, damage was caused to the Julius Baer building when the sign was blown from the wall. No further damage – nor any injuries – has yet been reported from the site.

Express understands that many employees are working from home today.

New Image Hairdressing at the Longstore is hoping to reopen soon after some of its wall peeled away in the strong winds.

The business confirmed on its Facebook page that no one had been injured.

Other organisations have also suffered damage.

The GSPCA, which has been fundraising for its multi-million pound redevelopment, has reported damaged to some of its facilities.

It’s not yet been confirmed if the damage has affected any of the newly built units at the animal shelter in St Andrew’s.
