As one business relocates to town, another could open in its wake at the Bridge.

The wine merchants Black Sabre is moving to St Peter Port in the new year, and plans have been submitted to turn its St Sampson’s premises into a tattoo parlour.

Andrew Woodward has applied for planning permission for a change of use of No. 9 the Bridge to facilitate the business.

If approved, the building will still be licensed for general retail and food/drink retail but the current use as an Off-Licence and wine-tasting business will be varied so it can be used as a Tattoo Parlour.

Mr Woodward has plans to create a gallery and tattoo booth on the upper floor with views over St Sampson’s harbour, while the ground floor will be used as an open plan procedure area with a reception area.

“I believe a tattoo parlour would contribute to the buzz of the Bridge and the vision for what the future plans are for the area,” he wrote in his application letter. “The surrounding area is currently in development and I feel bringing an injection of art, colour and culture would surely benefit what will be an upcoming neighbourhood.

“An existing tattoo studio on the outskirts of the Bridge has set the precedent for tattooists to operate in the area and I feel an additional studio on the Bridge will only enhance the current provision.”

Mr Woodward confirmed the eco-friendly nature of his planned business with sustainable products used in its services where possible.

Having already worked in tattoo parlours in town, Mr Woodward also confirmed the viability of the business with bookings being taken up to a year ahead already.
