This Easter, GADOC will be performing The Hunchback of Notre Dame at Beau Sejour.

The show looks to combine the 1831 novel by Victor Hugo with the musical score from the 1996 Disney film.

Set in 1482, the story follows the characters Quasimodo, played by Paul Wallbridge, and Esmeralda, played by Lily Quintal, with Chris Brooks as Claude Frollo, and Scott Riseborough as Phoebus.

Directed by Michael Sullivan-Pugh, and with musical direction from Lydia Sullivan-Pugh, the production features a live band and a full choir positioned behind the actors.

GADOC said the project received support locally from both the Victor Hugo Society and the Victor Hugo Centre.

“The production has worked closely with Guernsey’s Victor Hugo Society and the Victor Hugo Centre, both of which have supported it with promotion, detailed information on Hugo, and encouragement in again bringing Hugo’s work to a local audience,” a spokesperson said.

“Audiences will be able to enjoy live renditions of classic Disney songs such as ‘Out There’, ‘The Bells of Notre Dame’, ‘Hellfire’, and ‘Some Day’. All songs are composed and written by the legendary Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, known for their work on other classics like The Little Mermaid, Pocahontas, and Wicked.

“The Hunchback of Notre Dame’s songs are considered some of Disney’s finest and still see use in films, promotional videos, and inside theme parks.”

Director, Mr Sullivan-Pugh said, “it’s been an epic journey bringing the tale of Quasimodo and Esmerelda to the stage.”

“We can’t wait to bring another of Victor Hugo’s stories to life,” he said. “The author means so much to the island’s cultural heritage, so it is a real privilege to perform one of his most iconic works in musical form.

“The cast, crew, band, and choir have all worked incredibly hard to bring this unique show to life. You won’t want to miss it, it’s truly like nothing else!”

The production runs from Saturday 4 to Saturday 11 April, with all performances starting at 19:30. The show has a PG-13 age rating.

Tickets cost £21, or £17 for those under 16 and OAPs, and are available through the Guernsey Tickets website, or from the Beau Sejour box office, and all purchases incur a 7.5% booking fee.
