Guernsey’s Alex Scott has missed out on a place in the latest England squad, manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed.
Scott was a mainstay in the England Under 21s when they won the Euros and got his first senior call up last November.
The 21-year-old Bournemouth player was hoping to make the cut again for the next England camp, as the team prepares for friendlies against Uruguay and Japan at Wembley.
The news is a huge dent to Scott’s hopes of playing for England at this summer’s World Cup, as this is the last chance to impress the manager before June, when the tournament starts.
In another blow, Tuchel also named uncapped Everton midfielder James Garner in his expanded 35-man England squad.
While the team does have two more friendlies before the World Cup starts, the famously-pragmatic Tuchel is highly unlikely to tinker with his squad so close to the completion.
So, baring a miracle, fringe player Scott will be depending on injuries if he’s going to make the plane to America.

Good company
While it won’t stop the news stinging, Scott is in good company, with Real Madrid full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, Manchester United’s Luke Shaw and Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins also missing out on places in the latest squad.
Scott – a former St Martins AC, Guernsey FC and Bristol City player – is the step-brother of Manchester United Captain and England player Maya Le Tissier.
He’s played 67 Premier League games for Bournemouth, scoring five goals.
