A large cinema-style poster for a film titled Sands of Purgatory is displayed on the left side of the image. The poster shows a lone figure standing in a windswept desert landscape, surrounded by swirling dust and dramatic orange and blue lighting effects. To the right, the entrance of a modern building with tall pillars, large glass doors, and signage for “Reception” and “Box Office” is visible. The scene suggests the film poster is being presented or advertised outside a theatre or arts venue.

The latest short film from White Rock Productions will have its local premiere next month at the Princess Royal Centre for the Performing Arts (PRCPA).

As well as the screening the evening, on Thursday 2 April, will be a celebration of Guernsey’s creative community, and will feature a live performance by Guernsey-based singer Emily Fern.

Tickets for ‘Sands of Purgatory’ are currently available through the PRCPA box office for £4 each, with the premiere starting at 19.30.

It’s a 12A certificate film, with mild violence and profanity.

Alex Bates, Writer and Director, said: “Everyone involved with the film has been so excited to see the fantastic local response to the trailer.

“‘Sands of Purgatory’ has been in the works since early 2023 and we’ve all poured so much into this film.”

The film is a “gritty” post-apocalyptic action short, following a woman fighting for retribution in a wasteland known as Purgatory.

The main character, Artemis, will be played by Bryony Tebbutt, who is known for the video game Deliver Us Mars.

The cast also features several familiar Guernsey faces, including Brandon Ashplant, Sapphire Brewer-Marchant, Sarah Hansmann-Rouxel, Andrew Hislop and Simon De La Rue.

White Rock Productions has credited the project’s completion to support from Guernsey Museums, the States of Guernsey and Guernsey Arts, while the premiere has been sponsored by Delimited.

Mr Bates added: “Preparations for the Guernsey premiere are coming along really nicely and we can’t wait to share our work with Guernsey and then the UK at our film festival screenings shortly after.”

A group of people is gathered outdoors in front of a stone wall, posing beneath a large painted fabric backdrop. The backdrop features a fantasy-style scene, including mountains, a forest, a glowing figure, and cosmic imagery. The group includes individuals wearing a mix of casual clothing and costume-style outfits, and one person holds a film clapperboard with handwritten details. A person on the left is wearing a high‑visibility vest and holding camera gear, suggesting a film or creative project setting.

The short film has been nominated for seven awards at this year’s Glowfare Short Film Festival, including two acting nominations and five for production.

It will debut at the Harrogate Film Festival this month, before its local premiere and then Glowfare in mid April.
