Two top TV comedians have highlighted a women’s safety campaign founded by a Guernsey resident in their podcast.

Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe talked about the BE LADS campaign on their ‘Parenting Hell’ show, which gets more than 320,000 listeners a month.

The campaign’s founder Poppy Murray said: “In less than three minutes they’d run through the BE LADS acronym, and talked through a scenario of how to implement the advice.

“Although helping women feel safe is an important topic, Rob and Josh proved that these conversations don’t have to be heavy, drawn out, or difficult.”

Launched in 2021 as a direct response to the tragic murder of Sarah Everard, BE LADS is an acronym offering six non-verbal steps men can take to help women feel safer when walking alone.

The campaign has received backing from local, UK and international police forces, sports clubs, and businesses.

There are presentations on the horizon for the campaign to speak with City of London Police, West Midlands Police, and De Montfort University.

“The traction that BE LADS has gained over the last five years is phenomenal,” Ms Murray said.

“The journey from a simple Facebook post to the likes of New Scotland Yard, Chelsea Football Club, and the ‘Parenting Hell’ podcast reinforces the message that one person can make a difference, and small steps can have a big impact,” she added.
