Flights between the Channel Islands and the UK continue to face delays and cancellations, following a major technical issue with the UK’s air traffic control systems.

Nats, which is responsible for the UK’s air traffic control systems, said it had identified an issue with its flight processing system on Tuesday.

While the system has since been restored and airspace remains open, airlines and airports are continuing to deal with the resulting backlog.

A number of arrivals into Guernsey and Jersey from UK airports have been significantly delayed, with both island airports warning passengers to check the latest information with their airlines.

Guernsey Airport said it would extend its opening hours if required, while Jersey Airport said services between the island and the UK had been affected.

More than 1,000 flights were cancelled across the UK on Tuesday, leaving aircraft and crews out of position and hundreds of thousands of passengers affected.

Eurocontrol, which supports European air traffic management, expects normal levels of air traffic from UK airports to resume at around 21:00 BST, although airlines have warned that disruption could continue as aircraft and crews are repositioned.
