Officers were at the scene from midday, coinciding with low tide and the causeway being open.

The disposal was completed successfully at 13:45 and access to Lihou Island is now restored.

“Until the incident is safely dealt with please note there will be no unauthorised access to the island for public safety reasons,” police said at the time.

“Guernsey Police would like to thank the public for their co-operation with this matter.”
