Under plans for the transformation of secondary education, Kieran James and Vicky Godley had been appointed as Principals of the Victor Hugo and De Sausmarez college sites, with Liz Coffey still in position as Executive Headteacher overseeing secondary education.
With the plans to move to one school over two sites now subject to a pause while a review is carried out, Mr James will remain as headteacher of the Grammar School and Sixth Form Centre, while Mrs Godley remains headteacher of La Mare De Carteret High.
Annabel Bolt has retired from her role as head of St Sampson’s High meaning a replacement is needed to be found for her, while Martin Haimes has been Acting Headteacher of Les Beaucamps since July 2018, when he was promoted into the senior role on a temporary basis pending the change to the Lisia School model.
Now that transformation of secondary education is on pause, both St Sampson’s and Les Beaucamps high schools need Principals ready to start the new academic year in September.

Both roles are deemed essential so Education Services are allowed to recruit into them despite the otherwise ban on public sector recruitment as a result of the covid-19 pandemic.
The only other job vacancies currently being advertised by the States of Guernsey are for roles within Health and Social Care services across the islands, with positions available in medical services, mental health care and social work.

With St Sampson’s being the larger of the two schools it offers a slightly higher salary to its Interim Principal, but both salary scales are ‘dependent upon actual student numbers, performance in post, experience and link to Executive Head Teacher role’.
Both roles will be fixed term contracts for an initial period of one academic year but that might be extended to two or more depending on what happens with the review of the transformation of secondary education.
The job advert – which welcomes applications from on and off island – acknowledges the review and the significant changes already seen within secondary education locally, and says that an “Interim Principal plays a key role in supporting the further development and day to day management of their school site during this review period and the implementation of whatever programme of change is decided”.
