Bowel Cancer Guernsey has been working with Health and Social Care in preparing Faecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) kits.
An animation has now been published to promote how simple the test is to undertake.
The test checks for tiny amounts of blood in stool samples and can be collected in your own home. A FIT kit is sent to people between the ages of 60 and 70 every two years.
“According to Cancer Research UK, when Bowel cancer is detected early enough, more than 90% of those diagnosed with early stage bowel cancer can be successfully treated,” said Public Health Practitioner for screening, Di Mathews.
“In addition to completing a screening test it is important for Islanders to be aware of the signs and symptoms for bowel cancer and if they notice any to visit their doctor immediately.”
The Chair of Bowel Cancer Guernsey, Anne Brouard, said: “We are really pleased that the scheme is back up and running, and urge as many people as possible to accept an invitation for bowel cancer screening.
“It’s really important to always visit a doctor after spotting any symptoms, in order to prevent, diagnose and treat bowel cancer as soon as possible.”
