The utility said people should consider their water use and has issued suggestions for reducing outdoor water use.

“We do ask islanders to be conscious of their water use, particularly during hot periods of weather and where the forecast is for a further spell of dry weather,” said a Guernsey Water spokesperson.

Guernsey Water said that, during the dry spell, outdoor water use could be “reduced, or made more effective” by following their tips, which include:

  • Re-using any water used for water play, for example paddling pools, on your garden.

  • Watering only in the evening or early morning, to reduce evaporation, making efforts and water go further.

  • Using a watering can instead of a hose and avoid using sprinklers if possible.

Guernsey Water stores water between their 14 storage reservoirs via a raw water network, which is why some reserves can appear lower or higher than others.

The raw water network allows the company to distribute stored water to where it is needed and to make space in those storage facilities which can collect more water when rain does come.

Managing Director, Steve Langlois, said Guernsey Water was “monitoring water resources closely”.

This allows us to act appropriately in line with our reserves, carrying out internal changes to reduce impact on customers and providing us with a guide to when any wider measures may be required,” he said.

Guernsey Water advised that they aren’t considering a hosepipe ban at the moment, but would like to remind people to always use water wisely.
