On 16 October Philip Smith and Warren Mauger pulled the car in question 26.2 miles to raise money for their charity, This is EPIC. The group supports charitable work in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The group sold lottery tickets for £25 to raise money for the charity, with the car being the winning prize.

On Sunday (30 January), during a live draw, Mellissa Morellec was announced as the winner.

“I couldn’t believe it – I was in shock at first. I didn’t know what to say when the phone rang. I didn’t expect it at all,” she said.

Philip and Warren are better known in Guernsey as marathon runners. The challenge forced them to test their strength and endurance instead.

“We’ve done four months of pretty intense training, four heavyweight sessions a week plus five sessions pulling a heavy weighted sled– we’re up to 15 hours a week of heavy training and it has been way outside our comfort zone,” said Warren in the run up to the event.

The charity is still counting the money raised through donations and ticket sales, but it expects to surpass £30,000.
