From a cyclist injured in a collision to a politician being arrested again, here are the stories that you’ve been reading over the past seven days.

1. Cyclist stable after collision

Police enquiries are ongoing after two collisions involving bikes and cars on Sunday.

One was kept overnight after a lunchtime collision at the Halfway filter and was “undergoing treatment, but in a stable condition with non-life changing injuries”.

2. Job fears after retailer announces store closures

Shop workers in Guernsey are waiting to find out whether their jobs are secure, after a 230-year-old retail chain said it was planning store closures.

TGJones – the new name for WHSmith – said it was “restructuring” with reports up to 150 stores could close.

3. Pensioners disappointed

More than 170 former States’ employees have been told they can’t contest a tribunal decision over their pensions.

The tribunal previously decided the people had no case against the States for changing the terms of their pensions.

4. It’s not a fair cop, says Gav

Guernsey’s getting used to politicians being in trouble and Forward Guernsey leader Gavin St Pier is the latest Deputy to fall foul of the law.

Deputy St Pier and his wife denied any wrongdoing after they were both arrested for the second time.

5. Bum lawyer

A lawyer who touched two women’s bottoms during a drunken night out was given community service.

Advocate Steven Balmer will have to do 150 hours community service in what the judge described as a “crushing fall from grace”.

Island gears up for Liberation Day

Last year may have been a landmark celebration, but islanders are determined to make Liberation Day 81 just as special.

With events planned all over the island, anyone heading to town is encouraged to ditch their cars, while an award-winning podcast about the occupation has been made into a video documentary.
