The replacement of the roof was approved at last year’s Parish Rates Assembly in order to address the safety issues and to protect the historic interior of the building.

The building has been scaffolded for the past two years to avoid any danger to the public resulting from loose tiles.

Repair work was initially delayed due to uncertainty over the new hospital project.

However, now that Government has confirmed that the Victoria Park toilets will not be affected by moves to build a highway to the £800m new ‘health campus’, which was given the official green light on Tuesday, St. Helier confirmed yesterday that work can now begin.

As well as stripping the current roof and installing a new one, St. Helier said the £60,000 budgeted for the project includes the planning application process, scaffolding and relevant permits, an asbestos survey, replacement joinery and decoration of all joinery and cast iron work.

St. Helier said parishioners will also be presented with proposals for the refurbishment of the interior of the building for consideration at a Parish Assembly as soon as possible.

Maintenance work on the exterior of the public toilets in Victoria Park will commence on 23 May 2022 and finish in the middle of August.
