Islanders with strong public speaking skills, a deep appreciation for the significance of marriage, and a solid understanding of Jersey’s marriage laws are being invited to apply to become a civil celebrant.

The Superintendent Registrar is inviting applications for up to three independent civil celebrants to conduct secular wedding ceremonies in Jersey.

Civil celebrants are self-employed but regulated by the Superintendent Registrar, and it is against the law to solemnise a marriage in Jersey unless authorised to do so.

Superintendent Registrar Claire Follain said: “This is an opportunity to take on a varied and interesting role.

“We want couples who are getting married in Jersey to have a wide choice of civil celebrant, whilst being assured that the celebrant will have the skills, knowledge and commitment to deliver a wonderful wedding ceremony in accordance with the law.”

Applicants will undergo a three-stage selection process:

  1. Application with CV and a business plan.
  2. Interview and presentation.
  3. A two-day training session in December, followed by a one-day practical examination.

Those interested can apply here.

Submissions can be sent via email to SIR@gov.je or posted to: Claire Follain, Superintendent Registrar, Office of the Superintendent Registrar, 25 New Street, St Helier JE2 3RA.

The deadline for applications is Friday 24 October 2025.
