Every week, Express presents a selection of exhibitions, performances, workshops, events and other historic, creative and delicious content to help islanders get their weekly dose of culture.

Here’s this week’s offering…

Underground at The Drift

The UK undergound music scene is set to visit The Drift for the first time this weekend.

On Saturday 12 April, the Royal Yacht venue will host Grammy winner and grime MC Flowdan, who will perform electric dub and dancehall in an exclusive set with DJ Karnage.

Supporting the headliners will be garage act Danny Rankin, better known as DJ Decoy from Kurupt FM – who appeared in the BAFTA comedy winning series ‘People Just Do Nothing’.

Performances start at 21:00 with last entry at 23:30.

You can purchase tickets here.

Be our guest!

Islanders can be the Jersey Arts Centre’s guest this weekend as the Jersey Youth Performing Arts club presents Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Junior.

The talented young cast will be bringing the tale as old as time to audiences at the town venue until Saturday 12 April.

Matinee and evening performances are available, and the youth theatre group are encouraging audience members to dress like the characters from the show.

You can purchase tickets for the remaining performances here.

Craft market

The hard work of local crafters will be on sale at the latest craft market at St Andrew’s Church this weekend.

On Saturday 12 April from 10:00 to 15:00, various locally made creations and gifts will be showcased – including sweet treats, beauty products, perfumery and toys.

The venue is free to enter, refreshments will be available, and the market is wheelchair accessible and pet-friendly.

Poetry workshop

ArtHouse Jersey is inviting keen poets and writers to attend a guided poetry workshop this Friday 11 April as part of the arts charity’s newest exhibition.

Local poet Catherine Collin will take participants through an exploration of movement, visual and audio description at Capital House in response to ‘Orbits’ – a film installation created by Scotland’s leading disabled theatre company Birds of Paradise.

The film features Portuguese disabled dancer Diana Niepce, and aims to recognise the disabled community for the stories they bring to the stage.

The workshop will take place from 18:30-20:30.

You can book your place here.

Wildlife and wellness

Islanders can explore Plémont this weekend in a picturesque wildlife walk with a local avian touring group.

Organised by Birding Tours Jersey, the two-mile circular walk will take participants along country lanes and cliff paths to enjoy the diversity of the local wildlife this Spring – and maybe even spot a puffin.

The walk takes place from 17:30 on Saturday 12 April and will take approximately two hours.

Participants should arrive by 17:15, and wear appropriate footwear and clothing for the weather.

Book you place by contacting 07797 748653 or neil@birdingjersey.co.uk.
