This week sees the opening of an immersive installation, Lunar New Year celebrations, and folk music from Portugal, the British Isles and beyond.

Here’s what’s coming up…
Nowhere Less Now
Artists Linsday Seers and Keith Sargent have created an “ambitious immersive installation” in the form of an upturned ship hull, and centering around themes of time and memory.
It includes Jersey-specific films, complementing the artists’ exploration of ancestors and historical figures including Seer’s great-great-uncle and Mina Bergson, an artist and sister of Nobel Prize-winning philosopher Henri Bergson.
The exhibition opened on Thursday 30 January and lasts until Sunday 9 March at Capital House in St Helier.

The magic of Fado
Fado group Fatum are visiting Jersey this weekend for a night of magical music from Madeira.
The group comes to Jersey from the University of Madeira, and promises to imbue islanders with soulful Fado through its take on the traditional genre.
The concert is being staged on Friday night at Jersey’s new Portuguese Cultural Club, which opened last month at the former ROJO site.
The man behind the project, Gilberto Franco, said the new space aims to celebrate Portuguese heritage, bring families together, and provide a welcoming environment for islanders of all ages and backgrounds.

Celebrate the Year of the Snake
To welcome in the Year of the Snake, Jersey is hosting performances, workshops, storytelling and community events on Sunday.
An eight-person acrobatic troupe is set to deliver the highlight of the celebrations.
The snake symbolises wisdom, transformation and renewal, according to organisers.
Jersey has been marking the Lunar New Year since 2023, with events organised by the International Cultural Centre.

Folk sessions to warm the spirit
Jersey’s trad and folk musicians will be meeting at the Vic in the Valley on Sunday for an evening of trad and folk music, which is sure to warm the souls on a cold winter weekend.
They include trad classics and can even tie in to local folk tales, musicians Jo Thorpe and Tom Oxenham told Bailiwick Podcasts last year.
Anyone can come along to listen or join in – or, for a gentle start, join the slower session on a Tuesday.
