The Makings of a Murderer

Former undercover detective Peter Bleksley will share stories from the front line of major criminal investigations during a talk at the Jersey Opera House on Tuesday 17 March at 7.30pm.

A founding member of Scotland Yard’s undercover unit and a former star of Channel 4’s Hunted, Mr Bleksley will lift the lid on the hidden world of murder investigations and the dangers of infiltrating criminal gangs.

For more than a decade, he worked undercover – posing as figures including drug dealers and contract killers to gain access to serious criminal networks.

The talk will also explore the personal risks of his work, including the moment his career was brought to an abrupt end after an FBI-uncovered assassination plot forced him into witness protection.

The evening promises an insight into the realities of solving murders and battling the criminal underworld.

Jersey Premier Brass & La Ronde Concert Band

Jersey Premier Brass and La Ronde Concert Band are joining forces to put on an evening of music at St Helier Town Hall this evening from 7.30pm.

The evening will feature Filip Swoboda, brass finalist in the 2026 PwC Jersey Young Musician of the Year Competition, performing The Bass in the Ballroom by Roy Newsome and joining the bands during the concert.

La Ronde Concert Band, directed by Charlotte Cooper, will perform a programme including The Penny Whistle Song by Leroy Anderson, Concert Prelude by Philip Sparke, Finnegan’s Wake by Archibald J Potter, One Voice by Barry Manilow and A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square, composed in 1939 and popularised by Vera Lynn.

Jersey Premier Brass, directed by Jason Mildren, will perform their 2026 test piece 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Philip Harper, along with other pieces.

The concert will end with both bands performing together, including The Bass in the Ballroom with Swoboda as guest tuba soloist and Trailblaze by Goff Richards.

Bark Run

Islanders are invited to take part in the JSPCA’s first ‘Bark Run’ this Sunday.

The inclusive 5km run will raise funds for animals in need across the island.

The family-friendly event is open to all ages and abilities, whether you’re new to running or chasing a personal best.

It is due to take place on Sunday 15 March at Les Quennevais Sports Centre, starting and finishing on the cycle track.

Participants are asked to arrive at 9.30am, ahead of the 10am race start.

Entry costs £20 for adults and £10 for under-18s, with all of the money raised staying in the island to help care for animals in need.

New Moon Gong Bath Meditation

A New Moon Gong Bath meditation session is taking place at St Ouen’s Parish Hall on Thursday 19 March from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.

The event invites participants to experience a guided session of deep relaxation using the sound and vibration of the gong, designed to help create a spontaneous meditative state.

Organisers say the session aims to restore balance and harmony to the mind, body and soul through the therapeutic sound waves of the instrument.
