The accident happened just after 14:15 yesterday afternoon, and six fire-fighters with specialist equipment had to make sure no oil or petrol was leaking into the ground. The driver wasn’t hurt.

The Fire Service say the car had slid down the road due to the slippery conditions, hit a post and flipped over, only to land back on its wheels and come to rest in a field.

They are warning drivers to take care on the wet roads, and if the car does skid, not to panic, and follow the following steps:

  • continue to look and steer in the direction in which the driver wants the car to go;
  • Avoid slamming on the brakes as this will further upset the vehicle’s balance and make it harder to control.

They have also issued this advice to drivers:

  • slow down, avoid hard braking or turning sharply and allow ample stopping distance between you and the cars in front of you;
  • also, do these things one-at-a-time – brake, then turn, then accelerate.
